One of the biggest mistakes homeschool families make is missing registration deadlines. Tests like the PSAT have a single window each year, and if you miss it, you wait twelve months. Here is a grade-by-grade roadmap.
PSAT/NMSQT
October only. The 11th-grade sitting qualifies for the National Merit Scholarship, which can mean full-ride offers at many universities.
SAT / ACT
Multiple dates per year. Many colleges are test-optional, but strong scores still open doors and scholarship money. Take both practice tests to see which format suits your student.
AP Exams
May each year. Homeschoolers can self-study and register through a local school. A score of 3 or higher often earns college credit.
CLEP
Available year-round at testing centers. Earn college credits for knowledge you already have — great for subjects your student has studied deeply.
