Everything you need to know about Via Latina, classical education practice, and how we work with your homeschool curriculum.

Via Latina is a classical education practice platform built for homeschool families. It covers Latin vocabulary, memory work, typing, geography, timeline, math, science, English grammar, and fine arts — everything a classical student needs to drill and retain. It works alongside any curriculum including Classical Conversations, Memoria Press, Veritas Press, Well-Trained Mind, Visual Latin, Latin for Children, and Classical Academic Press.
Yes. Typing practice, geography games, the first 50 Latin vocabulary words, and the Daily Quest (10 questions per day) are all available without a credit card or account. You can start practicing in under 10 seconds by visiting /try-free.
No account is required to try the free tools. Creating a free account lets you save progress across devices, track streaks, unlock achievements, and use the Parent Dashboard. A paid subscription unlocks unlimited practice across all subjects.
Via Latina covers the full classical education journey from ages 4 to 18. Young Explorer mode simplifies the interface for ages 4-7. Grammar Stage content is designed for K-6th grade, Logic Stage for 7th-8th grade, and Rhetoric Stage for 9th-12th grade. Each level is clearly labeled so parents can set the right difficulty for each child.
10-15 minutes a day is plenty for classical memory work. The spacing effect — distributed practice — is far more effective than long cramming sessions. A 10-minute Daily Quest followed by 5-10 minutes of targeted flashcard practice is our recommended starting routine.
Yes. Via Latina supports all three CC Foundations cycles (Africa, Europe, Americas), plus Essentials grammar and the Challenge programs (A through IV). The /for-cc-families page has details on how Via Latina complements CC memory work without replacing the curriculum itself. Via Latina is not affiliated with or endorsed by Classical Conversations.
Yes. We have a dedicated /for-memoria-press page covering First Form Latin, Second Form Latin, and the classical memory work that Memoria Press families emphasize. Via Latina provides drill and spaced repetition that complements the Memoria Press curriculum.
Yes. Via Latina aligns with the Well-Trained Mind approach to classical education. See /for-well-trained-mind for details on how our Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric Stage content maps to the WTM framework.
Yes. See /for-visual-latin for our curriculum companion page. Via Latina provides vocabulary drill and grammar practice that reinforces Visual Latin lessons.
No. Via Latina is a practice companion, not a replacement curriculum. Your curriculum teaches. Via Latina drills. Think of Via Latina as the flashcards, quizzes, and games your student does to make the lessons stick.
Foundational Latin vocabulary (500+ words), noun declensions (all 5), verb conjugations (all 4 plus irregular), case usage, sentence translation, and pronunciation. Advanced content includes Henle First Year Latin vocabulary, Henle Second Year Latin, and Classical vs Ecclesiastical pronunciation differences.
Student plan: $9.99/month or $95/year (saves $25). Family plan (up to 5 students): $14.99/month or $144/year (saves $36). Family Legacy: $249 one-time for 10 years of access. All paid plans unlock every subject, every game, and the Parent Dashboard. Free tier remains available to anyone.

The Kingdom is Via Latina's home base — a visual map of 12 realms, each dedicated to a different subject or practice mode. Buildings grow stronger (Bronze → Silver → Gold) as students master more content. It's designed to make classical practice feel like an adventure instead of a chore.
Daily Quest is a 10-question daily warm-up mixing subjects. It takes about 10 minutes and is Marcus-guided (our friendly guide character). Free users get 10 questions; Pro users get all 18. It's the easiest way to build a daily habit of classical practice.
Spaced repetition is a study technique where cards you know well are shown less often and cards you struggle with are shown more often. It's scientifically proven to build long-term memory. Via Latina uses the SM-2 algorithm (same as Anki) for Latin vocabulary and across all subjects.
The Flashcard Study Hub has 5 modes: Flip (classic card flip with grading), Learn (adaptive escalation from multiple choice to typed recall), Write (pure typed recall), Match (timed tap-to-match pairs game), and Test (mixed quiz with score breakdown). Each mode is suited to different learning goals.
Yes — 45+ educational games covering Latin, geography, timeline, math, English grammar, science, and fine arts. Notable games include Chariot Race (capitals), Victoria Draconis (vocabulary boss battles), Lava Chicken (mixed subjects), Scholar's Trial (arcade-style quiz), and Atlas Conquest (interactive world map). All included with Pro subscription.
Yes. The Parent Dashboard shows progress across all students in your family — streaks, mastery levels, time practiced, subjects explored, and achievement unlocks. It's PIN-protected so kids can't peek. Available with any paid plan.
The Student plan supports 1 student. The Family plan and Family Legacy plan both support up to 5 students. Each student gets their own profile, progress, and level.
Yes. We collect only what's needed to run the platform and never sell your data. We use GA4 and Meta Pixel for aggregate analytics, but we don't show third-party ads. See /privacy for the full privacy policy. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.
Yes. Via Latina is a web app that works in any modern browser on any device — desktop, tablet, or phone. Native iOS and Android apps are in testing and will launch soon. The mobile web experience is already fully responsive.
